Why was he even bothering to oversee this? The Blood Chamber was made up of around one hundred guards and assistants, most of whom had relatively open schedules. Nikanoru, on the other hand, was a very busy man: he had to attend to several long interrogation sessions a day, dealing with the stench and heat of the chamber while doing his best to break the day's defiant Order operative who just refused to snap. Back to the question at hand: Why was he, of all people, leading this excavation? Oh, right: the last group King Osirus sent was stupid enough to get lost and was never seen again. Were they victims of the Curse of Zcether's Graveyard, the old wives' tale the knights so fervently believed in? Of course not: they were only victims of their own stupidity.
So, here he was--observing a group of twenty worthless brutes dig a large hole somewhere deep within the graveyard. They were silent, which he was thankful for; obviously, the supposed curse was dampening their spirits. Such pure, absolute idiocy! Nikanoru wondered if he was the only sensible adult as he watched those expendable soldiers of his yank out another body from the latest hole; it was quickly tossed into the pile of rotted flesh and dirty bones forming a few feet away from the desecrated grave site. Upon catching a glimpse of the soldier's horrified faces, he rolled his eyes in disgust. This was becoming too much for him to take!
"Are we men, or are we children? Knights of Osirus, indeed! You twits aren't fit to even scrub the dirt from my boots. There is no such thing as curses--remember that, because I'm not going to say it again. If you incompetent nit-wits don't pull yourselves together and hurry it up, I will personally see to it that none of you leave here alive!" scolded the royal advisor in a calm and controlled, yet obviously unamused voice. Apparently more frightened of Lord Nikanoru than the curse, the subordinates pulled themselves together for the most part and tossed the bodies from their graves with improved alacrity. That did the trick.
Growing weary of watching the useless buffoons work, Nikanoru directed his gaze toward the pile of bodies at the other side of the series of pits. Most of them were once Shades, he could tell. As he examined the pile of carcasses, he couldn't help but feel that he was directly responsible for leading those unfortunate men and women to their demise at the hands of King Osirus. But he just couldn't bring himself to care about it. Nikanoru even smiled at the sight, the years wasted working under the Order of Lumens because of those disrespectful twits coming to mind. Unable to accept that he was their superior, they cast him away to Amblethorn in hopes of breaking him--but their efforts backfired, and he helped Osirus break their entire civilization into thousands of pieces.
And those shattered pieces were taken here, the Zcether Graveyard--a place considered cursed by the Knights of Osirus, as mentioned before; conversely, the Shade considered the spacious graveyard to be a very holy land, a place where Lumen would watch over the bodies of those who fought their hardest against the wicked king Osirus and the humans. Nikanoru was probably the only Shade in all Alyssus who had no scruples with desecrating such a hallowed place. Nothing was sacred to Lord Nikanoru, and nothing ever would be.
"Start another pile, boys; this one is getting too large," he ordered, giving the group a quick glance as they continued to desecrate the graves of war heroes. Those who gave their lives in hopes of saving their kind from the wicked King Osirus would be chopped up and ground into pig slop to sustain the very people whose lives they ruined through their past failures. Giving their lives in battle only prolonged the suffering of the next generation. Oh, the irony of it! Some would say that forcing prisoners of war to cannibalize the rotted bodies of other human beings to keep themselves alive was an act only the devil himself could allow, but they were ignorant fools: it's a dog-eat-dog world, as they say. The demented advisor snickered at this little quip.
Nikanoru watched with disinterest as the soldiers dismembered the corpses of fallen heroes and stuffed the limbs and blackened organs into burlap sacks. He imagined Laties being one of those corpses for a moment: it was entirely possible, considering the treasonous remark he made a while back. The immature ass couldn't handle the horrors of war, so he was probably going to run off and work with the "good" side, the Order of Lumens. If not, he'd probably just resign once the war heated up again. Why was he wasting time thinking about that twit? There were more important things to think about! Such as the daughter of one of the Oasis tribe's elders. Yes, that would certainly be fun--negotiating with a bunch of nomadic savages for secrets regarding the Order.

Lisosiasya sat on top of one of the tombs a few meters away from the men who were working to dig up rotted bodies. Neither the sight nor the smell bothered her as she grinned as the sight of some one who looked like a Royal barking orders at them. Her eyes focused on him for a second as she sighed in boredom. The men seemed scared of some curse that was supposibly around here, but then again Lisosiasya didn't believe in curses since she took pleasure in the pain of others.
Actually, she didn't even know the details of the curse because she doubted she would even need to worry about it. After all, it wasn't like she was the weak woman she appeared the be. Even though she was currently in the female's form she was playing with magic. Call it morbid, but she was watching small flames come fromt he end of her slim fingers and give her hand the appearence of being on fire. Actually though she enjoyed the look of it, but since it was a fire she created she felt none of the pain.
Also since the fire was so small it was just barely using energy, it did help that she wasn't trying to attack with it though. With the current light of the area around them the fire's light gave her face shadows that made her appear possessed and even darker then her eyes could ever make her look. She looked at the pile of rotting bodies and wondered what this man in front of her could want with such a pile of waste. Yes, she did consider the supposibly fallen hero's bodies waste. She had never taken an interest in fighting for the goodness of justice. Actually, she fought and stole for herself and herself alone.
She soon grew bored of just looking at the bodies and with a sigh she looked intensly at the man. In a few seconds she reconized him from the many stories and pieces of news she had heard and seen. He was Lord Nikanoru, the King's adviser. Her eyes lit up in amusement as she slowly let the fire around her hand die. She nimbly jumped off the tomb she had been sitting on and walked towards the men. She took silent steps and it took a few moments for the idiotic human males to notice her, but she was more intent on speaking to this lord she had reconized.
She briskly made her way up to him and grinned, "Well, if it isn't Lord Nikanoru, the King's personal adviser. What would be of such an interest in this cursed graveyard to a man of high position?" She asked with a tone of almost respect. She would never give her respect to a lowly human. No, if it weren't for the obvious outnumbering and the fairly low amount of respect for the man in front of her she would have attacked him already. After all, she had been bored enough to play with magic, but the lord before her had gained slight respect from her by the fear many people had of him.
Of course the King held the most respect that Lisosiasya would give any human. That was mostly though because of the chaos he had caused and of the pure hatred many people had towards him. She looked around at the corpses as she waited for a response from Lord Nikanoru.

Because they were occupied with digging up more carcasses from their graves and tossing them into piles, the group of soldiers didn't notice the girl walking toward them for a while. They did notice her after a few moments, when they stood to throw the bodies or just stretch for a bit. Most of them stopped what they were doing and glared at her suspiciously, clasping onto their weapons just in case she made a move.
Nikanoru himself was standing before the main excavation pit, apparently unaware of the approaching girl. He was too absorbed in his own thoughts to notice her, imagining the faces of the nomads as his men flayed their elder's daughter right in front of them. His sadistic planning was interrupted by the voice of the girl, asking what someone of his standing was doing in a cursed graveyard such as this.
The sudden unexpected question surprised him, yes, but his visage remained as blank and controlled as it always was. It brought him back to reality; no longer could he hear the sound of bodies being tossed onto the ground, nor shovels breaking into the cold dirt. Had she killed his men? No, she couldn't have; he would have heard the sound of a fight. They must have let her go by, the idiots. Were they that useless?
After the brief break, he finally addressed the girl: "I'm impressed you were able to recognize me, child. Although I am well-known in the land of Alyssus, rarely have I ever shown my face in public; as I'm sure you know, I wouldn't be received very warmly." This he said without turning to face the girl, his dark hues surveying the many holes scattered around the decayed plain in the distance.
The soldiers, who had been motionless and completely silent this entire time, began advancing on the girl with blades and partisans drawn. Nikanoru, hearing their footsteps, raised his hand as a signal for them to stop. Understanding, they lowered their weapons and retreated backward without speaking a word. The group's many eyes were resting upon the mysterious girl and their master, their gaze unwavering.
"The reason I am visiting this "cursed" graveyard is simple: it's harvesting season. War prisoners, being below cattle and house pets in our caste system, are undeserving of table scraps; therefore, I appease their palates with rotten human flesh," he explained simply, his tone showing that he had absolutely no qualms over forcing people to cannibalize the remains of other human beings. "...And what brings you here, may I ask?"

She didn't bother making any notice of the men drawing their weapons or even when they started to approach, "I make notice of people whom I like to know about." She said turning to survey the area around them with almost a bored expression. She saw the men grow more alarmed as she spoke, but nothing of her posture changed to let them see fear, what could be seen was a small smile of amusement on her face. She found the attention amusing and she was obviously quite ready to attack the men if need be. Actually, if they came closer she just might have to give them a small scare, nothing more.
She grinned maliciously as she heard what the bodies were for, "That's fairly amusing." Her voice remained light an airy, almost as if she found it funny. "I've never thought of using a body in such a way befitting to the dead." She said speaking gently as she looked at the men again. Her eyes held none of the humor that her voice did, instead they were fixed in their normal deadly glare, making it seem quite interesting with how lightly she spoke and how darkly she glared.
"As for what I am doing here, well, I guess I'm bored, but I shouldn't bore a Lord with my own reasons." She said watching him as a few locks of Auburn hair fell into those same cold eyes. She didn't dare make any move to attack a guard, but as she placed a hand in her pocket she made a few motions with her hand as a shovel flew from a random man's hand and hit him square in the face. She acted as if she hadn't done a thing though before looking at Nikanoru again.
"Can I ask if you know what the curse is? I haven't heard that old story." She said innocently. She ignored the man's reaction, but she was making sure that if he ran at her again that she wouldn't exactly be unprepared. Of course she bore no weapon and it was obvious that no weapon was within reach of her. Also from how she dressed she looked like she was just some stupid girl who had wandered in and seen men to work before coming over and asking them about it.
Innocent enough, well, not really. No normal girl who knew this place was supposedly cursed to Knights and sacred to the Shade would come in here all willy nilly. Nor would a normal innocent girl be able to recognize Lord Nikanoru when he barely showed his face. She knew she was drawing suspicion on herself, but she was just bored and would be glad for either a fight or something to do that would just cause problems. That was the only reason she had attacked that man.
She did wonder though if they would pin it on her. Of course she wouldn't deny it if that happened, but she wondered if a fight would start. She would gladly attack and probably get caught if she couldn't blast enough down, but then again, she didn't like the idea of starting a problem with the King's side. After all, she didn't want to go running to those goody two shoes from the Order of Lumen. They just bothered her for many good reasons.

Nikanoru remained motionless as the stranger responded to him. He noticed her light, seemingly carefree tone, and was slightly baffled by it. For someone surrounded by over twenty armed men, she was surprisingly at ease! Hearing her remark about what he intended to do with the bodies, he quickly realized that he was dealing with a morbid and dark individual. She was certainly no peasant girl, as he had suspected even before she made the comment; after all, no sane human, especially one so young, would wander into a cursed graveyard all alone.
The fact that she didn't want to "bore him with her reasons" for being here only reinforced his belief. Before he could ponder it further, he picked up the sound of hard metal smashing against human bone--obviously the work of this mysterious girl. The soldiers quickly began to advance on her; however, before they could even lay a hand on her, Nikanoru interrupted: "When, may I ask, did I give the order for you incompetent gits to cease excavating? Resume your work immediately." The soldiers complied without question, returning to their posts.
Once again, Nikanoru paused after the girl questioned him about the curse. In truth, he knew very little about it--only the gist of things: it was a holy place of refuge for the Shade, and a place to be feared for the Knights of Osirus. "There is a long story behind the curse; but, unfortunately, I know very little of it. A mere old wives' tale, if you ask me," he explained in the usual calm tone. "What I do know, is that the Goddess Lumen supposedly unleashes her wrath on any Osirus supporters who dare set foot on this hallowed ground."
The workers slowed down considerably as their master spoke, the same thing on all their minds: what if this girl was, in fact, the curse? She was not only wandering around in a supposedly very dangerous place all alone, but also had a demented sense of humor and the ability to move things with her mind! This enigmatic maiden could very well be the physical incarnation of Lumen's wrath! "Are you fools dwelling on the curse again? Get back to work!" demanded an annoyed Nikanoru, growing very impatient with his men.
"..You aren't very skilled at projecting yourself as an innocent little girl, child; then again, you don't seem to be putting any effort into it. I could list the many little things that gave you away, but I haven't the time nor the will power; and I'm sure you're perfectly aware of them, anyway. Forgive me for being so blunt, but I could care less about who or what you truly are. So, that being said, is there anything else you'd like to ask me?" This he said in the same controlled, uninterested tone he maintained for the entirety of the conversation.

She looked around as they advanced, but made no other move to bother them nor did she seem at all bothered by them. After all, if they could be easily annoyed by a simple shovel to the face then it must be easy enough to make them enraged enough to become stupid. "Well, I guess I must thank you for calling your soldiers off because it would have been a shame to lay more bodies across the ground." Again she spoke with ease, almost as if she would enjoy killing them, which she obviously would have, but she wouldn't do so until they attacked her.
"Hm...The curse must be a bunch of baloney then because you people are obviously fine, well, except for the man whom I just sent a shovel into his face, but that was for my own reasons." She spoke as she looked at the corpses, an even darker look growing in her eyes. She truly wanted to torment these men and she was obviously going to do such a thing. 'So they believe in the curse eh? Let's have fun...' Lisosiasya thought darkly as she moved her hand about in her pocket. One of the corpses rose up, acting much like one of those zombies as it made it's way toward one of them.
Lisosiasya knew that this was a useless waste of energy, but she also knew why she was doing it. She would waste energy if it meant tormenting a few already terrified souls. Looking back at the lord she smiled gracefully, which looked quite weird paired with her ever cold eyes, "I never try good Lord. Most people are blinded enough by the effect of a child that they'll ignore qualities that I've shown so bluntly." She shook her hair from her eyes as she stopped pushing magic into the corpse and it fell at the feet of some unlucky man.
"Hm? Anything else I would like to ask you?" She said aloud as she over acted like she was thinking, "Well...I guess I could ask you whether you would like some help against the resistance, but I see you have a fine amount already, even if they lack the courage to walk into a supposedly cursed graveyard." She commented with a shrug as she seated herself yet again on a gravestone. She smirked slightly as wind blew bangs back into her face.
"Or I could simply walk off and continue to torment your men about this curse." She said leaving the decision in the air for him. "After all, I could very well be this 'curse' that the Goddess Lumen has sent upon any one who is under King Osirus's ocommand...or I could be a simple human with a sick sense of humor. Your choice to try and figure it out." She kept her gaze training on him as she wondered what would actually be the choice made. After all, she was perfectly fine with leaving and tormenting these men a bit more.
It could be fun.

As the stranger raised the corpses and made them stagger towards the group of soldiers, they stared blankly like deer into the headlights of an oncoming vehicle. Color completely drained from their faces, and they actually came to resemble the walking dead themselves. One of the men even yelped and fell backwards as one of the carcasses fell at his feet.
Nikanoru listened to the girl talk, beginning to lose interest as she went on. Despite being a scholar, he had quite a short attention span: if something even slightly uninteresting to him, he would simply tune it out; however, he would pay a little attention to the speaker, just in case their ramble or story got to an interesting point. And the advisor quickly snapped back into attention as the girl mentioned joining the ranks.
She was nothing but a young girl, yet she wanted to join the ranks of Osirus! How strange! Then again, this girl was rather bizarre herself; probably not a human, he thought, and possibly far older than she looks. She could be a valuable asset, judging from what he'd seen of her power and twisted personality. Yes, a valubable asset, indeed!
For the first time since they began talking, Nikanoru turned from the main excavation pit to face the stranger. He surveyed her for a few moments with those dark hues of his: while she did look like nothing more than an ordinary girl, he noticed that she did have a strange air about her--something he couldn't put his finger on. After his short examination, he began once again: "Because my men are on a schedule, I cannot allow you to torture them about the curse--no matter how much they deserve such anguish. As for your offer to join our cause.."
He stopped there, mulling the prospect over before he decided to make the offer. Not only was it not his place to offer a position in the Knights of Osirus, but something about this girl just seemed a bit... off. While he could respect such a derangement, she could easily be an ambitious demon seeking to gain power within Osirus' ranks. Psychopathic, unbalanced.. Oh well; Laties and his Viera bed warmer could deal with it. Adding a morbid lunatic to their ranks would certainly be amusing. "Although I am not authorized to offer positions in the military, you are welcome to join our side if you wish. You seem to be quite powerful and unbound by moral codes--something we're looking for in knights."

Lisosiasya watched him loose interest as she spoke and is amused her slightly. She didn't pay much attention to it though as she twiddled her fingers, almost itching to play more tricks on those men in front of her. Of course as the man she was focused on spoke of not torturing his men she smiled lightly. It wasn't a regular smile, but once again one that seemed to have a dark twist to it, maybe it really was the eyes. She turned to look at the men and noticed how pale they were. She guessed it was a miracle that they hadn't tried to attack her yet, then again, they were probably more scared of the Lord who had them here then of some curse...how funny.
She listened to him speak of being unbound by mortal codes and she gave a small giggle (yes, she does giggle). "Well, glad to know that I'm the type of person that you are looking for, but I'd rather not be a knight. Hm...Is there a person I could ask about this kind of thing?" She asked with a voice that held a second meaning to it that wasn't something that could be considered against the Knights of Osirus. Lisosiasya just preferred not to be fighting in a main field if that time ever came because a slightly skilled person could figure out what she was and bind her to them and then she'd have to dirty her hands all over again.
Which of course she didn't mind doing, but she also didn't feel like fighting...just yet. She examined her fingernails before looking up at him. She was interested in joining, but she also had no idea who to go to. She really only paid attention to the people that people were more scared and hated, but from what she knew the General of Osirus's ranks wasn't hated or as feared as the man who was looking at her. Of course Lisosiasya didn't find that too surprising because she had also heard all about King Osirus; from both sides too.
Lisosiasya saw a gravestone about two feet away that looked strong enough to sit on and that was exactly what she had done. She sat upon it, swinging her legs in a bored manor as she watched the men work. She would probably torment them once more before leaving, even if it caused a problem. After all, they were easy to torment and once more probably wouldn't get her killed. It probably wouldn't even get her caught unless Lord Nikanoru knew about Djinns.
She doubted it though...

Nikanoru paused after the stranger explained that she would rather not have a position in the military, but something else. He noticed the suspicious tone she had taken on, but decided not to dwell on it. Besides, if it turned out that she was up to no good, she would be 'taken care of' sooner or later. "So the prospect of being a knight doesn't appeal to you, mmm? I never did care for those expendable buffoons, myself. There is a number of people you could contact to find another position among the ranks of the Dark King..."
He cut himself off, drifting off into a state of deep thought. What kind of job would this girl be best suited for? Certainly not an advisor, seeing as she appeared to be slightly psychotic--well, he was psychotic too, but in a different way. Moreover, she didn't seem to have the experience nor finesse needed for such a prestigious position. After considering a few more options, he had a breakthrough--she could be a torturer! An unbalanced, sadistic girl who apparently took pleasure in causing people pain--something he took notice of when she used her mind to bring a shovel to an unfortunate soldier's face.
Nikanoru leisurely walked away from the large excavation pit, bony hands clasped behind his back. He didn't bother to glance down at his men; for he knew that if they weren't working harder than they ever were before in their miserable lives, they would face his wrath or the bowels of the Blood Chamber. He was once again facing away from Lisosiaysa, gaze resting on the endless graveyard before him. A girl who was obviously not human, who seemed to be psychotic and unbound by the shackles of morality and humanity... Yes, she would be an excellent addition to his legion.
But there was still something about the bizarre young woman that he didn't trust--then again, he didn't really trust anyone. She obviously wasn't human--any idiot could tell that. Nikanoru recognized a few traits of hers that were shared by races he knew about: prowess with magic, a demented personality.. Exactly what she was escaped him, but he could easily figure it out by researching in the grand libraries of Du Aurella some other time--that is, if he felt the need to.
Finally, the director of the Blood Chamber began again: "I will be frank with you: to me, it is fairly obvious that you are a sadistic woman, an unscrupulous individual; a girl, as I said before, unbound by humanity and moral codes. No doubt you would take great pleasure and enjoyment in torturing men, women, even children..? Should you decide to join the ranks of the Blood Chamber, you would be given 'creative freedom' in torturing war captives, criminals, and members of the Order of Lumen. You would be able to unleash your most disturbing impulses without fearing the law's retribution. Does this appeal to you? If not, I could always redirect you to someone else."

"No, Knights don't interest me because I would prefer not handling a weapon in combat." She answered the stereotypical answer for her race. For who ever knew Djinns, they would know that the Djinns obviously preferred magic and were better fighters with it, but that their most powerful weapon was usually their mind. She continued to sit upon the gravestone as she leaned over to read the name, "Lucas Himanse. Heh, what a funny name." She said looking at his death date and at a small R.I.P that had been carved in to the stone obviously at a later time.
She smiled lightly at she watched him obviously think her request over. She knew that he thought she was possibly quite disturbed, but from what she had heard of him he was similar in the manor that he enjoyed the cries of pain from people who were possibly innocent. She also was ignoring the fact that she should have been more careful. It would be quite hard to bind her this time because she had learned to flee. Yes, flee, but she only used that magic if she was in so much trouble and about to be bound to a soul.
"Hm? Blood Chamber?" She asked obviously showing him that she hadn't been listening too well to him speak, "That does sound fun. I'm guessing you are the correct person to speak to that about since you are so well versed in it." She said standing up and brushing the dirt and dust off of herself. She had noticed that a few terrified looks were being cast at her from these men and she waved back. They probably still thought she was the curse on this Graveyard.
They were quite stupid then. It was quite obvious that she wasn't any thing holy. Actually, she seemed more like one of those people that was cursed. Maybe that was why they thought she was the curse. She didn't know nor care, but she turned to fully face Lord Nikanoru.
"When do I start?"

She didn't prefer the usage of weapons in combat? Nikanoru considered this new bit of information, trying to associate it with the girl's other qualities and attributes so he could finally identify her race. There was a number of races that didn't rely on physical tools of combat--instead, they used their astounding magical abilities to reduce their enemies to nothing more than a fleeting memory. He could recall a rather chaotic and demented race that possessed great magical prowess, but unfortunately couldn't recollect the name.
The soldiers still found the strange girl's presence, which was obvious because of their tightened facial features and blank expressions. Their motions were still and automatic from fear, but they knew better than to slow down their digging--lest they face the wrath of Nikanoru. Actually, it was safe to say that every single soldier was relieved that the girl didn't want to join the ranks of Osirus' knights; because, if she did, most of them would probably quit. If she decided to work with Nikanoru in the Blood Chamber, they would never have to see her again.... hopefully.
"Indeed; I would be the correct person to speak with about employment in the Blood Chamber, for I am its director and supervisor. Whatever happens in the chamber occurs because it is my will, unless his majesty decides to use it for his own purposes," he informed her in the usual monotonous voice, his interest in the conversation fading. He was hoping she would join his legion, yes, but he wasn't exactly the most sociable type. Nikanoru spent his days locked away in his home or the Blood Chamber, avoiding contact with anyone other than the King, his family, and a select few others.
A small, twisted parody of a smile formed on the advisor's thin lips as the stranger gave her decision. "Ah, so you've decided to join us? Splendid! Your employment will begin whenever you please--simply travel to Du Aurella, and request my presence in the castle. But in order for you to work under me, I will have to know your name."

"That sounds perfectly fine." She said as he spoke of traveling to Du Aurella. That wouldn't be too hard considering how she didn't need to be weighed down by men with heavy armor. Heck, she didn't really have armor, which was what probably made the blood chamber a better job for her. As she thought about a few other things that had presented themselves as problems in her mind she stared blankly at the men digging. Of course, cold eyes that were just barely focused could be a little intimidating, but she didn't bother to see the reaction. After all, it had only been a thought.
"My name is Lisosiasya. Not many people know my last name and most of those people are dead so I doubt it'll be of use to you." She spoke calmly as she turned to lookat dead man's gravestone and the name. She did find a few names funny, but most of them were that of dead people because people who died just amused her. Call it the fact that was a twisted Djinn, but other then that she didn't really know why it was funny.
She smiled politely at Lord Nikanoru and gave a small curtsy. She knew manors and when to express them; only, that wasn't too often. "Well, I best be on my way and I shall be seeing you soon. Thank you for the oppertunity." She said gracefully as she moved easily up onto a tomb stone and then took a jump to the next. She was going to take care of a few things before she went to visit the Lord, but he had said she could start whenever.
She burned his name into an already good memory and made her way along until she was out of sight. This was going to be fun...
(Lisosiasya has left the graveyard.)
