Legend;- A non-historical or unverifiable story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical. This is what the definition of Legend is. According to humans, a legend is often a story or a tale taught over many, many generations. Often, legends are taught to children in order to teach them a valuable life lesson, or to warn them of repeating a past mistake. Often, legends are changed or modified to fit the customs of a particular race or they are transfigured into something that can be easily translated to others who may not know how to understand the legend in its original context. Legends have formed many parts of our historical tales. However, in a world where legends carry a little more important role, this is where we find a story handed down from father to son, mother to daughter, and grandparent to grandchild.
This is the Legend of Alyssus:- Many, many years ago, when magic was plentiful and innocent in the land of Alyssus, there were many races that governed the land equally. They lived peaceful and calm lives. Children grew up without a single worry. Parents were able to raise their children in peace. The land was plentiful and fruitful. Season after season brought bountiful harvests and tremendous amounts of food that could easily be spread out through the large land of Alyssus. The many races lived without conflict amongst each other, even sharing land and wealth. From the Shade of the Southern hills, to the Elves of the Northern mountains; everyone lived in peace without worry of famine or war. The age was good and magic was used solely for innocent purposes. Even in the minds of the stubborn Humans, life was good and the balance of peace was set.
But soon, their peaceful lives would be shattered by a single man. Far, far in the Southern hills, there was a temple. The temple was not one of worship, but one of fear and respect. It was a prison to a dark god. When the world was young, good and evil clashed like great titans. But without this battle, our world as we know it wouldn’t have been created. However, the dark god, the very essence of evil, grew jealous of the happy lives lived by those who had been born upon his land. So he took it upon himself to create a world in which he would have rule over. But before he could commence in his evil deed, the Shade, a race of magical beings born to guard the very evil god himself, erected a temple to lock away the evil essence. They swore to keep the land free of the evil god and never to allow anyone to unlock him from his prison. Therefore, they made it impossible for anyone other than the Shade themselves to enter the temple.
But the evil god, now given a name to prevent fear of the unknown; Nocens Atrum, was not ready to give up. He possessed a young Human prince, well aware that humans are less able to protect themselves against the influence of magic. The young prince waited many long years, growing up with the Nocens Atrum within his body. At the age of twenty some moons, he murdered the fair King and sent his body to the bottom of a lake. Never proven to have been his father’s murderer, the young prince was crowned King. After marrying, he killed his mother and sent her body to be buried in a mountainous cavern.
His evil deeds were not entirely thought of innocent. The Shade knew very well what was happening. So, they planned a rite in which to capture the Nocens Atrum and seal him away forever. However, on the very day they were to conjure the rite, the murderous King sent an army to kill all the Shade. Women, children, and men were all slaughtered on the day in which all other races called The Day of Inson, or The Day of Lost Innocence. From then on, the world was plunged into darkness. Kingdoms began feuding and men continued to murder each other. Magic was tainted and the lives of the people were to never return to normal.
But there was still a glimmer of hope. The humans, controlled by the black hearted King, forced all races into hiding and fear as they conquered kingdom after kingdom. But there were still a few who did not wish to abide by the new laws. They left their homes, their families, and any hope of returning home to form the Order of Lumen; named for the essence of light and innocence, the very goddess of peace. Within the Order, those of all races were welcomed to form a resistance against the harsh rule of the King and his knights. Even the Shade, which few survived and now live in a scattered area, are welcome to fight against the rule of King Osirus.
This is where your story begins;- Will you help the Order of Lumen, or do you swear allegiance to King Osirus? Where will your journey take you and how will your destiny intertwine with that of Alyssus?
