Masters in the arts of stealth and espionage, these Humanoid beings are well known for their skills of deception and illusion. Able to alter the levels of light and darkness in their surroundings, they can also mimic certain aspects of those they meet; penmanship, speech, movement and other such easily adapted elements are mere examples of the traits they can take on to aid them in creating false identities. Modifications to their appearance are often unnecessary as they rarely show their full facial features anyway. Regardless, they also possess the ability to change the colour of their iris temporarily, although this is simply a precaution to avoid detection.
They appear similar to Humans, but with more vibrant and pastel coloured eyes. They are usually fair-haired or blond, with very few naturally taking on dark or coloured roots; some still prefer to modify it to their own liking however. With an average lifespan lengthier than that of most Humans, Vernula have been rumoured to live past the ages of four or five hundred, although due to their diminishing numbers, whether this is simply a myth or otherwise is yet to be proven. What has been demonstrated however is that, in their early years (anywhere from twelve to thirty), Vernula typically prefer to live in rather poor surroundings.
Most take their home in the streets of large cities, wasting their days away with silly games and bets over who can pick pocket the wealthy better or who can trick passersby into believing they have met previously. As they grow older, however, they begin to seek better prospects, some entering careers that are advantageous to honing their powers and abilities. Ideally, they are the perfect workers, keen to triumph over each and every challenge thrown at them and utterly distraught should they ever fail. As long as they are kept happily preoccupied, a traitorous thought should never cross their eager little minds.
Once familiar with their surroundings and the people in their environment, Vernula can become quite loyal and protective of their contacts. Because of this, there are few in their species that refuse to fight for either side in the war; when it comes to choosing an alliance, it really makes very little difference to them. Really, it's all a matter of who they are approached by first. To refer to them as a lesser race would be an underestimation, given their power, determination and skill, and yet; their lack of self-preservation and aspiration leads you to think that without a cause to fight for or an order to obey, they would probably be a little lost.
