.Name. Nikanoru Margrace
.Nickname. Creepy Bastard; Hat Guy; Traitor to the Shade; The Royal Jackass; Angel of Death
.Age. 47
.Birthday. November 15th
.Race. Shade
Allegiance: King Osirus
Profession/Rank: Royal adviser; serves as one of the many personal advisers of King Osirus, providing him with wise counsel and advice concerning political and military affairs. Nikanoru is also the director of criminal interrogations; this involves torturing captured members of the Order of Lumens and other rebels for information, among other things. (Requesting)
.Hair. Short, dark brown; exact style is unknown, because he very scarcely removes his head-dress.
.Eyes. Narrow and thin in form; pure black in color. Interestingly, they always seem to have a mad, almost inhuman glint.
.Physical Description. Over four decades of a severe lack of physical activity has left Nikanoru's body frail and lanky. Calling him a skeleton, while obviously an exaggeration, wouldn't be too far off from the truth: he's all skin and bone, lacking strong, well-formed bones and developed muscles. He has a long face with overall soft features; save for his sharp, somewhat pointy noise. His reclusive nature has denied him much sunlight over the years; not surprisingly, this has left him with colorless, almost corpse-like skin. Nikanoru's strange body build, in combination with his height of 6'0" (the hat adds about another foot to this), gives him a frightening and rather imposing appearance.
Nikanoru's attire resembles that of a religious official, complete with the ceremonial miter. He has very little variety in his wardrobe: while obviously not the same garments, he dresses in the exact same outfit every day without any change in design or color. The aoi dai he clothes himself with is sewn from the finest fabrics available; it is dark violet, almost black in color, lined with forest green silk. While the red sash that constricts this garment makes it considerably tight, the sleeves are loose and droopy. His head-dress is the exact same color as his robe, and cylindrical in shape; two arched, horn-like ornaments sprout from its sides.

.Goals. Nikanoru is a very ambitious person; so, obviously, most of his goals are a bit high up there.
.Fears.
.Personality. Many believe there is good in everyone, no matter how nasty and cruel they can be; but if these people were to spend a few days with Nikanoru, they'd most likely be reconsidering. He is a very horrible and unscrupulous individual willing to go to any lengths to get what he wants, and is certainly not above ruining and ending lives--be it several or thousands. Nikanoru is a man whose heart symbolizes not just darkness; but absolute, terrifying darkness that the light itself wouldn't dare to brave. There are no redeeming qualities to Nikanoru; and, in fact, the world would definitely be better off if he were dead. Summed up, he's an absolute monster.
His mind is warped and twisted, plagued by disorders too numerous to count; most notably megalomania, psychopathy, sociopathy. He has the need to be a controlling force in people's lives, and takes a very sadistic pleasure in making them as tough and painful as possible. Nikanoru also has a severe superiority complex, believing those not as wealthy or high in status as he is to be nothing more than worthless animals. Being a coward, he usually runs when confronted by those he's wronged; he'd rather have expendable lackeys fight for him while he watches from the sidelines. True love is something he is incapable of, for he is unable to empathize with the feelings of others.

.History.
The story of this deranged individual begins in a small village deep in the southern hills. This village, Lyara, was one of the settlements scattered throughout the world populated by the Shade; they were a very traditional people faithful to their ancestors slaughtered by the wicked Osirus, and were aligned with the Order. Lyara's citizens, although mostly very nice and pleasant, were paranoid about being discovered by Osirus; because of this, they joined the Order not only to help the cause, but also for extra protection in case they were discovered. In return for the Order's protection, their young men joined the Order's army at the age of sixteen.
Nikanoru remembers little of his childhood, except for a few prominent memories. He was the older of the village elder's two sons, and was popular with the rest of the town because of his father's position; although he cannot remember the names of his parents or brother, he remembers that he had a very pleasant relationship with them. His younger days were spent outside playing and frolicking with his brother and friends. Even though he liked The ideal childhood. Although he was very warm and friendly as a child, he couldn't help but feel that he was better than everyone else because of his status and wealth.
Time passed, and Nikanoru slowly but surely transformed from a nice little boy into an arrogant, snooty teenager. Not surprisingly, his father eventually came to notice this and tried to explain to his son that he was no better than the other townsfolk; unfortunately, his wise words fell on deaf ears; for Nikanoru was already too full of himself to change his ways so easily. Kairai began receiving complaints about his son's wicked behavior, and contrived a plan: following his sixteenth birthday, Nikanoru would be sent to Amblethorn and trained in the ways of a soldier; he hoped this would instill humility and a sense of responsibility in his son.
Needless to say, Nikanoru wasn't exactly pleased with this revelation. He went off to Amblethorn without bidding his parents or brother good-bye, his soul full of bitterness and contempt. His training went horribly: sickened by the thought of being a mere soldier, he refused to train or practice his fighting, much to the chagrin of his proctors. Nikanoru's training came to an end at age twenty with the death of his father. He returned to Lyara in hopes of usurping his father's position; however, he was met with scorn and malice and refused the position of elder. Further infuriated, Nikanoru renounced his heritage and links to the Order and headed to Du Aurella with what remained of his family's wealth.
His new life in Du Aurella, in his opinion, was much better than his time in Lyara. Because of his wealth, he was quickly accepted by the aristocratic elites of the city and joined their inner circle. One of the nobles he befriended, Delphine, would eventually become his wife. Nikanoru lead a lavish lifestyle befitting of a noble; however, his wealth was depleting and he knew he had to find employment. Being as power-hungry as ever, he desired employment at the castle as an adviser to Osirus himself. When he went to apply, the corrupt king could easily sense Nikanoru's heritage and contemplated killing him on the spot. Nikanoru, as a sign of loyalty to the king, betrayed his people's location and ties to The Order.
The King's army marched to the given location and surely enough came upon the town. Having sent their young men away to work with The Order, Lyara was nearly defenseless and quickly fell to the powerful army. His loyalties proven, Nikanoru was given the position of royal adviser following his hometown's destruction. This wasn't enough for him, though: he wanted further revenge on the Shades who survived and were taken captive as prisoners of war. He requested permission to torture the survivors for information about The Order, and it was granted out of gratitude by the higher-ups. Nikanoru's effective, and rather horrifying methods of torture were witnessed by those same high-ranking individuals, and he was granted the title of Head Interrogator. Nikanoru would later earn the nickname "Angel of Death" for his cruel and unusual methods.
The Order was shocked when they learned of this. Because of the alacrity of the slaughter, they didn't hear about it until after it was far too late. Nikanoru's involvement was suspected, and quickly confirmed when word reached them of the positions he reached. Henceforward, Nikanoru was branded as a traitor to The Order and Shades in general.

So went the heels of Nikanoru's boots against the cobblestone floor of the hallway. The sound was drowned out by the prevalent wails and pained screams that filled the air, though. Darkness overcasted the entire hallway, the dim light of the candles lining the walls unable to pierce through the blanket of pure blackness. A stench that seemed to be a mix of burning flesh and dried blood filled the air. Truly a scene from the bowels of Hell itself.
And Nikanoru loved it.
One last click, then the almost inaudible sound faded into the darkness. He had stopped in front of a wooden table painted with dried blood, on which a young elf boy no older than seventeen was fastened. Maggots of all shapes and sizes were crawling all over his exposed torso, nibbling at the many cuts and gashes on his body. "So," began the royal official in the usual icy tone, his oblivion-like hues tracing over the mutilated boy; "are you going to cooperate with us today, mmm? All you need to do is give me two names, and I will end your suffering right now and stop using that awful medicine to keep you on the brink of death. Well?"
"...You can take that offer," started the young man in a whispery, broken voice as he turned his head to face his captor. He paused to regain his breath, for he could barely muster the strength to converse with the wicked Shade: "..and shove it up your skinny ass!"
A long pause followed the boy's resentful exclamation. Nikanoru's thin lips curved into a sick parody of a smile as his eyes continued to trace over the boy's wounds with sadistic pleasure and morbid interest. "Oh? Is that so? How unfortunate," he replied sadly, glancing over at a rather barbaric man standing in the corner of the room. Turning his attention back to the elven boy, his demented grin widened. "Farewell, then. We'll try again some other time." With that, Nikanoru turned from the prisoner and made his way back into the hallway, and the frighteningly large man slowly walked toward the boy while giggling to himself.
Nikanoru was leaning against the wall outside the torturing chamber as his assistant began to whip the boy's stomach with a spiked whip. How admirable! the elf was trying to be brave and take the abuse by muffle his own screams and cries; unfortunately, as they both knew, he wouldn't last long. The screams of an innocent in unimaginable pain rang throughout the building, causing Nikanoru's sadistic smirk to widen even further.
The screams came to a quick halt, and Nikanoru chuckled.
