Among the beautiful opaque trees of the forest was one that was terribly different. The dark branches were covered with the deepest emerald leaves. And, from those same branches were deep red apples. And, standing under that tree, munching on one of those divine fruits was none other than Lieutenant Lourette. The Viera had been searching for Laties for what seemed like ages now, and so far, nothing had been heard from him. Finishing the last bites, Lourette dropped the core on the ground. She was about to grab up another one when she heard a soft voice.
"Um...have you said the prayer for another tree yet?"
Taking a look around, Lourette's hand flew to the hilt of her rapier. "Who's there?!" she called, narrowing her eyes, her rabbit ears pricking up to take in the sounds around her, trying to catch the culprit. "Show yourself!"
"No need to fear, madam," the soft voice spoke again. Slowly, from the foliage, appeared a beautiful foxlike creature. Her nine tails were writhing slowly, and her piercing green eyes seemed to stare right through the Viera. "I mean you no harm... I was just wondering if you had said the prayer for that apple core to sprout into another tree is all..."
Confused, Lourette took one step forward. "There's a prayer for that? Never heard of it," she spoke. "Why not say it for me..."
Akikaze nodded slowly, walking silently toward the discarded apple core. "By the power of the great Mother Earth, may the seeds within this apple core sprout and become a great tree so living beings may feed off of its beautiful fruits..." As she spoke, she was digging a shallow hole with one hand. Finally, she placed the core within the hole and filled it back up with the soil. "Amen."
"So..." Lourette said, taking a step back and leaning against the tree again. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm searching for someone..." was all Akikaze said. Though she thought she could trust this strange bunny woman, she just wanted to make sure before saying any more.
"Looking for someone too, eh? Well, you're not alone there," Lourette replied. "It seems everyone's looking for something these days... Some people are looking for swords, some are looking for victims to rob and kill, and some are looking for targets to seduce..."
Akikaze shook her head. "But I'm not looking for any of those... I'm searching for my mother..."
Lourette stifled a snort of laughter. "But you look like you're old enough to take care of yourself, girl! Why are you looking for your mom?"
Emerald eyes narrowed, and Akikaze almost summoned up a wave of Fox Fire to engulf this woman, but that would mean burning the beautiful tree as well. "I have to ask her something. That's all..." she replied. "Now, may I have one of those apples?"
Shrugging, Lourette lifted one leg and gave the tree a powerful kick with one of her strong Viera legs. The tree shook violently for a few seconds and apples rained down from it. Catching one, she held it out to the fox girl. "Here," she replied.
"Thank you, madam..." Akikaze spoke, taking the apple. "May I ask your name, madam?"
"Only if you quit calling me madam. It's annoying," Lourette replied. "I'm Lourette. Lourette of the North Wind."
"And I'm Akikaze Kitsune-Onna," Aki replied. "It's nice to meet you...
