Lourette raised an eyebrow at this. "Wait, what?" she asked, her head tilting slightly to the side so she resembled a confused anime animal. "I put the man in manly?" she asked herself quietly, not sure what he meant. Oh well. Hearing what he said about one of the pages, she laughed. "Well, I guess he must be a pretty skilled leveret to gain your praise, Lat!" she said, grinning. Twirling her staff, she shot out at two of the pages, one with her staff, the other with her foot. As she kicked that one page's staff away, she immediately rotated on the ball of her foot and sent another page's staff flying. She then put her foot down and thrust out again with her staff. This one, however, managed to keep hold of his staff, though he yelped aloud in both shock and pain. "Hm. Not bad, leveret..." she said, nodding.
"This one is skilled as well," she said, nodding. "It seems we have some skilled leverets in here, Lat!" she said, grinning.

"Honestly, General Laties, can't you give the man a break? After all, he is just doing his job," came a voice from above them. The outside training court had many places in which a spectator could stand whilst watching the pages get humiliated. On such place was a tall, stone wall that provided support to a rather large hill in which had been dug out to provide from for the court. Standing on top of the wall was Israfel, the short Leutenant General. He smirked, holding his head up in a haughty manner as he looked down at the small crowd before him. He placed his hands on his armored hips, staring down at the Advisor.
"Oh...but that would also mean that General Laties is doing exactly what he's supposed to...right?" Then, with a tremendous leap, Israfel landed heavily next to Lord Nikanoru, his heavy boots kicking up dust. He was now side by side with Lord Nikanoru, glancing up at him with a smirk.
"Can't get someone in trouble for doing their job, right? Besides, I don't think our King will care much for the antics of a General. As long as he rips out the vocal chords of any and every member of the Order, right?" He asked, still glancing up at him. Israfel then crossed his arms over his breastplate, closing his eyes.
"Or maybe your jealous of his job? Do you want to sit here and teach smelly kids how to fight with a sword and flirt with Sir Lourette?" Israfel asked, then chuckled lightly as he watched Laties go back to work with the pages. Israfel shook his head slightly, his hair flowing back and forth.
"But I'm not disagreeing with you. General Laties does act out of sorts for a General," Israfel said, holding his hands up in a defensive gesture. He then glanced up at Lord Nikanoru again. "Right?" He then chuckled and dropped his hands.

"You are far too outspoken for your own good, Lieutenant General; it would be wise for you to watch your tongue in my presence, understood? But yes, I must agree about General Laties: he needs to learn his place in our hierarchy," said the advisor calmly without even giving the newcomer so much as a glance, his dark black orbs fixed on the detestable general and his subordinates. Nikanoru's rage had passed, and he was once again his calm and collected self.
His eyes fell down to the new report he had started a moment ago, perusing over the scathing criticism of both generals' behavior. The writing was barely legible, considering the state he was in when he wrote it; he knew he would have to rewrite it later on, and possibly add a few other things. After a short pause, he began again: "Of course, our liege wouldn't be interested in this jester's antics; but, then again, I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate such a high-ranking officer making a mockery of his grand army."
Nikanoru paused once again, losing himself in his thoughts. Ever since his frustrating encounter with Laties moments before, he had been contriving a plot to knock the bastard from his high pedestal. And he had a good idea as to what he should do, too! The fool called him nothing more than a mere secretary, locked away in the castle doing paperwork. Perhaps the general should be shown what he actually does within the bowels of the castle? Yes, that would bring his world crashing down. Nikanoru believed that Laties, despite his rank and skill, knew little to none about the true horrors of war. If he were to spend a day working with him, he thought, it would certainly be a very... enlightening experience.
"As for the Viera," he started again, glancing over at the lieutenant major general; "do you honestly think I would be interested in that abomination? I'm still surprised that they're allowing animals to join the military. From what I've seen today, fighting and mating rituals are all that its mind dwells upon. Wouldn't you agree?"

"I dare say I must protest, I'm surprised that they're allowing traitors into our midst." Laties replied cooly as he walked towards the advisor with an odd smile on his lips. "Here is another word of advice to you, Advisor Nikanoru." Laties stopped a mere foot away from touching the frail man with his body, his smile still on his face as he looked up slightly so their eyes met.
His voice dropped to where only the two would be able to hear, "I could care less on what you say about me. Go ahead and call me what they call my tribe. Go ahead and call me a twit, an idiot, a barbarian." He raised his hand and slapped it gently against Nikanoru's face. "However, if you dare mess with those under my command. I'll abuse my power just to get to you." Laties' hand slapped Nikanoru's hat from his head before falling back to his side. "Get out of here, this my territory. Next time I see you here, you better be ready to defend yourself."

An unsettling silence followed the general's action. The pages who saw the general smack the official's hat from his head stared in dumbfounded silence, wondering what the frightening advisor would do in response. Nikanoru acted as if he didn't even notice it: his cold, unblinking eyes met directly with Laties' without wavering once, his face blank and expressionless. Seeing as Nikanoru was a very imposing, sadistic figure, one could only imagine what was going through his demented head.
Finally, the uncomfortable scene progressed: he bent down, eyes still on the general; grabbed his hat, then adjusted it back on his head. Nikanoru placed the tip of the quill on the first page of the opened tablet, ready to continue his report. "I believe you have a job to be doing, boy," he said with the usual holier-than-thou smirk he was so well-known for.

"Now, now children!" Israfel cooed as he stepped between the two of them, his hands on either of their chest. He glanced up at Laties, then to Nikanoru with a smile on his face.
"Can't we just play nicely? I mean, we all work for the same person, right? I dare say that the King would care for barbarians and animals in his army, after all, Laties is the best leader and Sir Lourette is the best warrior...and..." He looked up at Nikanoru.
"It seems you're being a bit of both, no? Like...a barbaric snake! Yes, like a snake..." Israfel said, smirking.
"Like a snake, like a snake..." He chuckled again and glanced at Laties.
"I think its best we leave him alone now. Its not like rats and snakes get a long very well, right?" Israfel asked, shrugging.
"Besides that, the pages are getting tired of watching you pick on people, Laties..." Israfel said, nodding towards the pages. Israfel then stepped from them to lean against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Why, yes I do, secretary. I'm glad you've noticed and decided to let me do my job, correctly." Laties replied with his trade-mark smile. "Israfel, come, you're going to be my dummy."
With that said, he turned on his heel and began walking back towards the pages. "You trying to catch flies or babies with your mouths open like that? Get back to work!" He snapped as he slapped his staff against one of the page's legs. "Back to the lesson, if disarmed the best manuever for you is to go for either for the legs or their weapon. Observe." Laties let his own staff fall to the ground with a clatter as his hands suddenly snapped forward and took hold of ready page's staff. In a swift movement, the page flew over the general's shoulder and landed on the floor with a painful smack as the staff was twisted out of his hands.
"Doing what I did, will not only get you the weapon, but will also knock the wind out of them and keep them immobilized for a few seconds. During those few seconds you can cast the finishing blow." Laties lectured as he helped the page up and handed him back the staff. "Now I shall teach you how to do it. Major, if you'll please be my sparring partner." He asked looking at the slightly shorter man.

Secretary? Nikanoru couldn't help but laugh inwardly at this; that was really all the general thought he was, was it? Well, rest assured Laties had a learning experience in store for him sometime in the near future. After all, the Order of Lumens didn't call him the "Angel of Death" for nothing! That egotistical tool would soon have a new outlook on life and the world around him, he thought. He would speak with King Osirus about his little plan later.
And a snake, was he? A barbaric snake? That's what the pesty lieutenant general said. What a pathetic attempt at an insult; in fact, to him, being called a snake was a compliment: cunning, shrewd animals capable of killing their enemies with a single strike. A creature to be feared, to be respected. Reminded Nikanoru of himself.
He observed the general deal with the naive pages with disinterest, making several notes while he watched. From here on, he could attribute Laties' tough training methods to him taking his anger out on the pages. While he wasn't particularly interested in doing so, it could possibly lead to some trouble for him. If it would cause trouble for Laties, he'd do it. He was taking less notes than he once was, his mind occupied with thoughts of Laties reaction to being his personal assistant for a day.

An abomination? Lourette? Oh, that was most definitely an understatement. Raising one hand, she turned her head halfway toward Nikanoru and grinned. "Let me just say that you're halfway right about me. I do tend to have fighting on my mind, but that's under my loyalty to King Osirus, breathing, and eating and drinking!" she said, laughing. "Then comes fighting and mating rituals! Hey, a girl has needs, you know!"
She then turned back around to face the pages. "Oh, but what does a maggot-infested corpse with a stupid hat know about females? Especially female viera?!" she asked, more to herself than to anyone else. "Besides, you're just jealous because you can't get your hands on an attractive female, like Laties or Isra have! You're stuck with some gaunt bag of bones who does whatever you say!"
Ooh, she's going to be in SO much trouble.

Laties inwardly winced as he whispered, "I hope you realize that every time you decide to insult an advisor, it looks bad on me. In fact, it brings me closer to getting demoted and probably will be discharged. Leave in the insults to me." He chuckled as he began using Israfel as a test subject, teaching the pages how to throw each other over their shoulders.

As soon as the phrase "maggot-infested corpse" escaped the Viera's lips, Nikanoru stopped listening to her retort; for he was now too caught up in thoughts of what was to come over the next few days. Maggot-infested corpses: yes, he had seen hundreds of those during his time in office; while frightening and disgusting, they certainly wouldn't be enough for the "great, strong-willed" General Laties. He already had a few... special sights in mind for him.
His attention returned as the Viera began to trash-talk his wife; only seeing her about once every two months, he couldn't agree or disagree with her. Nikanoru simply shrugged it off, unmoved by her insults. Believing his job done, Nikanoru made one last important note before casually walking over to the door. He cast an amused glance at one of the many pages, who shook his head disapprovingly in response, before heading out the door.

Israfel chuckled loudly as Lord Nikanoru left. He shook his head slightly as he glanced at Lourette and Laties. "Damn...I think you made him mad, what do you think? I dunno Laties...he's got eyes for you now...I'd be careful if I were you..." Israfel said. He stretched, then yawned. "Well, I think I'll take my leave. There is a mug of ale calling my name..." He said as he put his hands behind his head and walked off.
